For those interested in trying to photograph fireworks, I use a tripod and cable release. I use both a 17-40MM and 24-70mm lens, manual focus set at infinity, F11, ISO 100, and set the shutter speed to "bulb" which allows you to change the exposure time as needed. Most of mine will be between 3 and 10 seconds. I also have a piece of cardboard painted with a flat black that I'll use to cover the lens if I want to include several bursts in the same image.
