The shape allows us to be as close to the lounge as we can. and still have clearance for it to go into the bed position. It also makes it easier for someone to get from a chair onto the seat. Once seated the shell can be slide forward. If someone is mobility challenged enough to make that too difficult, we used a portable toilet that could be removed and used where convenient.
