Magpie Geese

Anseranas semipalmata

This is the first time that Magpie Geese have visited our local wetlands, and everyone (local people and the geese) is hoping for babies this spring. Magpie Geese breed in groups of three; one male and two females, and observation has shown that this is a very successful breeding strategy. This three have paired (?) off, and are settling down to nest, we hope.

Brisbane, Queensland, Australia.

Beautiful shot, but I thought polygamy was illegal there.
