Just to the west of Mt Lassen lies this little 16,600 acre wilderness named for a few less than one thousand lakes. The volcanic geology is interesting, the fishing good, and it makes for a nice weekend hike. This wilderness was a section of Clinton Clarke's original 1935 PCT route midway between Burney Falls and Lassen NP. The Lakes has some very old trails, water, forests, high peaks and geologic riddles throughout; however, the usfs in 1973 chose poorly to place the current PCT to the north along the dry desert-like Hat Creek Rim. It's not the first time the usfs took a wrong turn!
Thanks, Deems,
Once again, you have taken me on a tour of a place I never knew existed. And now that I have seen it, I want to go there. Only one picture of Kelly? Seriously, thanks. I love seeing your pictures.
