Wow Alfred C Bathke, You have more relatives than I do. I am not sure how I ended up in the middle of your family dialogue but was glad to hear you are well and a grandfather too. Please contact me sometime as I had a couple questions for you. Take care, Penny

Frank M. just ran into your response, and no, other than the ones I know from Emmet Co., as was raised here and knew of some of the names you mentioned. My line John, Carl, Otto, and my dad, but I don't know of any across the ocean!! Would love to connect with that part of the family. Thanks for your response. And yes, many names with the church baptismal records, but cannot connect them to who they are or how related.

Block/Bathke
Carol, my Aunt was Edith Bathke (Louis, Herman, John) born in Emmet County. Have you had any luck on sorting these out? There were a lot of Bathkes in Ratzebuhr, Neu Stettin, Pommern. Very confusing.

Still looking for Bathke's that came from the Ratzebuhr, Germany area(now Okonek, Poland. There are several listed in a church record I stumbled upon in the Ratzebuhr area. I'm looking for a John who had a brother Julius(wife Mathilda) and John's wife was Wilhemina Block. That's as far back as I can go. Like they threw any trace of them overboard on the way here!! John, Wilhemina, and son August came about 1872. Don't know as Julius ever came. He had a daughter Johanna who came with another son of John(Carl and family) about 1882. Carl's baptism record lists a Karoline and two Karl's, but I can't read German, so I don't get who they are. Any history of the area would be greatly appreciated and of course any concrete connection to others would be wonderful. Hope to connect to someone here soon. Thanks!

Wow! This is the most Bathke names I have seen in a long while. I am Edwin albert Bathke, born in Milwaukee, Wis. My father was Edwin Julius Bathke, born in Eagle Point, Chippewa County, Wis. His father was August Bathke, born in Pomerania, near Danzig. He came to the US with a Heidtke family because they had a spare ticket. Think he had no siblings, but supposedly he had uncles in the Green Bay, wis. area. Have not been able to make any connection yet. I think Edwin Emil Bathke, Los Angeles, founder of Los Angeles Trophy Co., is from that line. When I was in Germany three years ago I saw buses of the Bathke Bus Co., based in Rostock, Germany (interesting to see a bus with your name on the side -- in letters three feet high).

Wow, what an interesting find when searching the Internet. There are a number of names I had not heard from in years. My dad was Ferdinand Carl Bathke (born 01/03/31), not Fritz Dean Bathke as earlier mistakenly stated, and he has been gone for decades after passing away on May 27, 1988. I was named after both him (my middle name) and after my uncle, Al Bathke, whom I may have met only as an infant and I apparently took after more than in name as both he and I had a career as police officers (I retired from the Oregon State Police after 28.5 years of service, in 2007). My Dad's brothers other than Alfred included Glenn; John (went by Jack); Kenneth; and Leonard. He also had a sister named Myrtle. Both Kenneth and Myrtle resided predominantly in Roseburg, Oregon; Glenn resided the last several decades of his life in Falls City and Dallas, Oregon; and my Dad and uncle Jack resided largely in Salem, Oregon. Both Leonard and Al passed away in the 1950's (I believe) and lived in Mommouth, Oregon immediately prior to their death. My grandparents were William and Orabelle Bathke and I was told by my dad while a child that the family had come to Oregon from Wisconsin (my dad was born in Wisconsin, I believe in Osh Kosh if I remember right). To his dying day, my dad remained a devoted Green Bay Packers fan...

As for me, I have 11 other brothers and sisters and nearly all are in Salem or in a small town nearby. I am married and my wife's name is Lila. I have two grown sons, Jason and Tim Bathke, and a ten year old granddaughter, Ashley.

If you are reading this, Dixie, I remember you from my childhood and did not realize you were still in the area. My recollection is that Rick passed on some years ago; is that right? Rick and I used to be fairly close in our early teen years. Also, are you in touch with our cousin, Karen (Ken's daughter), who also lives in Roseburg? I hope you are doing well and enjoying good health.

A special hello also to my nephew, Joshua, and to cousins Ed, Erv and Donna. May God richly bless each of you...

And, although I do not know you and have never met you, thank you also to Harold Bathke for starting this website and thus allowing some of these "old dogs" to connect again...

Still looking for John Bathke and family. John had a brother Julius. Julius had a daughter Johanna who came to the U.S. with Carl(son of John) and his family in 1882. Johanna married a Graul and lived in rural Emmet Co. Michigan. If John or Julius could be in your family please let me know.

Carol 16-May-2009 22:46
I am from a branch of Bathkes from Michigan. Well, from Prussia orginally! My Great-great grandfather was John Bathke from Ratzburh, Germany that is now Okonek, Poland. He married a Wilhemnia Block. They had Carl, August, Hermann, and Albertina. All immigrated in the late 1800's. They settled in northern Michigan in the counties of Emmet and Charlevoix. Just thought I'd add my gang and if anyone knows more about any of them, please let me know.

I THOUGHT I WOULD ADD SOME THINGS ABOUT THE FAMILY THAT I KNOW. AUGUSTA BATHKE ORIGINALLY CAME FROM ALSACE LORAIN, FRENCH BORDER WITH GERMANY, NOT SURE OF SPELLING. GRAMMA ORABELLE BATHKE'S GOBEN FAMILY ORIGINALLY CAME FROM THREE BROTHERS THAT MIGRATED FROM WALES. NO WEALTHY FOLKS OF COURSE, MINERS, FROM THAT START I GUESS THERE ARE GOBENS THROUGHOUT THE SOUTH. MY BRO NAME IS ALFRED LEONARD SCHROEDER, AND JIM HAS THE MIDDLE NAME OF LLOYD, GRAM BATHKES BRO, ANYWAY THERE IS A LITTLE MORE INFO. DIXIE

Hi Bro' Ed. Your Great Grandfathers name was Ferdinand Albert Bathke and his wifes name was Augusta Bathke (Koeppen) if I am not mistaken! She passed away at 33 years of age and Gramps likely remarried - I haven't checked that out yet.
Edwin Bathke 27-Jun-2008 18:24
I have noticed that certaqin names seem to follow the family around. Mine is Edwin Arthur Bathke. I was given 2 of my deceased uncles middle names. Alfred Edwin Bathke and Leonard Arthur Bathke. The names John, Ervin, Fritz, Ferdinand and william. Our branch of the family moved to Oregon just as the US was joining WWII. My grandfather, Ervin Bathke and Orabelle Bathke (Goben)had to leave the family farm in Tony Wisconsin, just outside Ladysmith when they lost it to the bank. My father, Glenn Bathke stayed behind with some friends until his 18th birthday so he could join the Army. It is my understanding that my fathers father (I cant remember his name, to my shame) moved to Wisconsin from Minnesota. The story goes that one day in teh 1800's he gathered his sons and wife together with their dairy herd and left without looking back and never got in touch with the Minnesota Bathke's again. Perhaps someone from the Minnesota branch can tell us what happened or why?
Oh, by the way, I recognize many of the names here. I should, we are closely related. I live in Corvallis Oregon.
Dean Bathke 23-Jun-2008 02:30
Hi
My name is Harold Dean Bathke Jr. My Grandfather was Clarence bathke of Norfolk, Nebraska.
Lots of Bathkes online, never meet but one group of Bathkes that werent directly related. My understanding of the name is that our family name was Boedke in Germany and that Ellis island mucked it up when the two brothers came to the United States.
Joshua Bathke 28-Apr-2008 08:17
Hello everyone. Its funny that all these Bathkes are in here. I really thought there wasnt much of us out there, but lo and behold. Its strange that theres also a Harold Dean Bathke, because my name is Joshua Dean Bathke and my father was William or Bill Dean Bathke and his father was Fritz Dean Bathke. I am related to Afred Bathke, Leonard Bathke, Fred Bathke, Kathy Bathke, Julie Bathke, Evon Bathke, Debbie Bathke, Robert Bathke, and Jerry Bathke. Those were just aunts and uncles. I cant even get into my cousins and second cousins because the list goes on and on. I grew up without my dad. I was raised in Sacramento CA and in April of 2000' I moved back to Salem OR where I was born. A few months later I finally came in contact with my dad after so many years and thats when I found out that I had a huge family on my dads side. Boy you should see the family reunions. They are insane!!! Well anyhow, I am married, and have been for 4 and a half years and I also have a son Jacob who is 6 years old now. I reside in the small town of Gates, OR. If any Bathkes are in the area, please feel free to contact me at dirt_hogs@earthlink.net I look forward to meeting with more family members.

Hi, enjoyed your pictures. I am a friend of Roland Groppe and we live in the same park in Florida. He sent me your address so I could view some of the pictures of his place in NY. I had seen some of them while in Florida. We have been discussing Digital camera
he sent you. We had been discussing digital cameras and I had asked him to send me some pictures of a street lighting project and he said it would have been easy if he had such a camera. I just bought over the
internet on a Yahoo auction. Will be interesting to try when I get it. Thanks for the viewing privilege. Bill
