Black Bear Cub

This small bear cub visited my yard in Campton, NH on October 20. It stayed all day. Sadly, it is apparently an orphan. I hope that it can survive the winter.

Furthern note: As of November 2, the cub continues to hang around my yard. It is getting bigger and gaining weight. Hopefully, it will decide to den soon.

Its mother was probally nearby. Sometimes they appear alone but are under the eye of a parent. I am a forest ranger in a park and have cubs brought to us as orphaned but probally were not. Nice pictures

I have not seen the cub again, so I don't know if it made it through the winter. Sure hope it did!

what a beautiful little cub- poor thing :( could you possibly build a man-made type den that it would use? Like a large mound of dirt covered with tree limbs, etc if you don't have anything like that nearby. I sure hope it survives, what a tough little fella to make it this far alone :)
