First, I did not make this. So thank you Paolo but not me. I found this at a pawn shop. On first look it seems he did a really good job. Dig a bit deeper and we begin to see it's flaws. Most of these are covered up so it seems he cut the corners he knew he could hide easily. It's a real nice player and plays very close to a real Jem. Let's see why.
The neck is a Wizard II off of an Ibanez RG320. He installed a vine inlay decal. He messed up on the color. I think Scott can fix that.
The body I am unsure about but starting to think it was the 320 as well. He started to strip it and didn't finish so it is gummy. He routed a cavity in the back for a battery and installed a battery holder. Not sure why. Evo's are not active PU's.
The bridge is an Edge Lo Pro which is what is on most Jem's. It is in beautiful condition.
He installed a set of Evolution pickups in both the bridge and neck. Now the PAF Pro was the original neck pickup and the neck version of the Evolution just came out recently and is being added to some (may all) Jem's. I have played the PAF Pro and now the Evo neck and on first play I like the Evo neck PU. It had that deep tone I like about the neck pickup but without squashing the harmonics. Deep yet bright. The perfect PU? Hmmm, unfortunately the wireing is messed up and the PU was no where near the strings so the tone may change when wired correctly and intonated. But that's OK. I want to use it as intended.
The mirror pickguard was a homemade job. On first look not bad. On a closer look not great. He didn't bevel the edges and the corners are sharp!
It has a really low action and a fast fretboard. Very smooth. Scott polished the frets and cleaned up the neck. Can't wait to play it. Scott's fret work makes it feel like jello on slick ice. In short it plays like a Jem. These are the before. In the spring she will be painted. Will post some picks then. I will also post a few when I get it back next week.
We are calling her.......The Jam
p.s. Forgot to mention that the arm had broken off inside the Edge. That was a scary prospect but Scott was able to get it out no problem and there seemed to be no damage.
