20 Years of TERRORism

These selected recopilated images shows facts that happened between the years 1980 to 2000 trying to rebuild the visual memory of our internal armed conflict that caused the death of 55 thousand innocent people and about 6,500 men, women & children disapparisons. Two decades of pure insanity excess (murder, kidnaping, torture, unjust detentions and all kinds of human rights violations) thanks to maoist groups Sendero Luminoso, Movimiento Revolucionario Tupac Amaru, the Government, Armed Forces & Police. These mistakes should never happen again...

Powerful, hard to look at, incredibly important. I voted for this. We must not turn away from understanding this is what war - even for the "best of reasons" - does to civilians.

Hola Luis, thanks so much for compiling this material. Though only a child with limited understanding, I also still remember the horrors we lived here in Peru during the 80's and early 90's. It's chocking and distressing revisiting this part of my life, but at the same time it gives me a fresh dose of repulsion towards war and senseless vilonce. Unfortunately it doesn't seem we've learned much from these lessons.

I'm dumbstruck. This gravity and photographic brilliance of this gallery makes me feel like my own work is merely childsplay. I know we can' t and shouldn´t all be covering war and devastation and that photography is about diversity and so on (I beleive this), but I can't help feel humbled all the same. Excellent reportage and with 'only' an Olympus C-2100. Shows that you don't need to shoot with a Nikon
or other expensive camera if you have a gripping story to present to the viewer. Congratulations on your fine presentation here on Pbase. It stands out by a long shot amongst all the flowers, babies and boring portfolios.

What an incredible photo adventure into how bad mankind can be sometimes. I am sure there were more photos that did not get posted. You are to be applauded for telling the tale in reality photos. Keep up the good work

My Family moved to the US from Lima and the Miraflores area some time ago 1980's. My Cousina and Some Aunts and Uncles still live and work in this area. I know now why my cousin was afraid for her children and husband. I know the how bad the communists are, having seen there handy work first hand in Asia till I left in 1983. Thank you for the view into the horrors of Terrorism...............Markos

Thanks for showing the real story behind the headlines. No such thing as a "Robin Hood" in Peru or my beloved Colombia. Just criminals and terrorists who get fat on drug and kidnap money and hide behind the utopian face of "popular war".

This is one of the most amazing and crude graphic reports I've seen. I live in Colombia, and I know what it feels like being always scared from not knowing what could happen to your family and loved ones. Why good people has to pay the price for coward's mistakes?.
