In my opinion the EF 24-105 F/4 L IS is the best all around lens for a full frame camera. It is "L" quality which pretty much says it all if you are familiar with Canon's line of L lenses, and with the exception of perhaps the 28-300, the 24-105 has the most useful focal range of the L series, and while not exactly "compact", it is not large either. This lens stays on my 5D 90% of the time.
