Just wanted to post the first photo I took of the saw-whet, with hopes it would assist others in finding them. Believe me, I'm no expert at this and the "nice" shots were taken later from a better vantage point. When I left it was still resting on the rodent it (presumably) caught. Again, a stroke of luck and mobbing chickadees guided me to look in the right area, but I thought I would post a photo of what a saw-whet looks like in a crowded stand of Hemlock, with hopes it'll aid others in their search and what shapes/coverage to scan.
