The natural habitat of the endangered Berber-apes is Morocco and Algeria where they live in an altitude of 2000 meter. Salem at the north of Bodensee appears to have a perfect climate for them as well. Here is established a reservoir of 200 apes who live freely in a 20 hectar forest. In 1986 a group of apes from Salem was succesfully brought back to their natural habitat in North Africa. Visitors are allowed in Salem and it is permitted to feed the apes with certain produced pop-corns. It is great fun to watch the apes since they interact pretty much as they would in nature.
