The 19th of August 2006 was a special day since - for the first time ever - the water in the channels around Christiansborg (the government building) was deemed clean enough for swimming. A swim competition with more than 300 participants was arranged and it was quite a sight seeing the mingling of cars, pedestrians, bicycles and swimmers among bridges and buildings.
