Spent a week visiting Malta ...a place which I had read a lot about and for a long time, meant to visit, but never really managed, as floating on the cusp of Europe and Africa, it was actually easy to reach yet seemed out of the way! Anyway, I am glad to have made the effort as the churches, palaces, ruins and the country side reek of the island's relations with the Crusades and of history...the seafood is great, the people are gentle and helpful...we got lost several times a day driving around, but there was no lack of assistance from the local people who put us back on track, with the smiling assurance that even they got lost all the time as "the road signs are poor and there are many deviations..." Malta, the larger island, has the edge in cultural treasure, but Gozo is still worth a peek...
