A miscellany of images from Ciudad Havana, Cuba - where it was like entering a timewarp into the 50's, but a good time was had with excellent cigars, so much so that with cigar in hand, it became somewhat difficult all too often to get at the shutter release button ....

Hi, Cynthia - Thanks for the visit and most touched by your comments - am particularly happy that your grandparents also enjoyed re-visiting Cuba through my photos. You may have visited my son's galleries already but just in case you haven't, his is pbase.com/framewerkz and he has some interesting angles on Havana as well. We were together in Havana at the same time, and found the people happy, charming and delightfully proud of their country...we certainly hope that they will see their aspirations come true. My grandparents moved to the US from Cuba many, many years ago just after Castro's Revolution and sadly have not seen their homeland since. For this reason, after I shared your photographs with my grandparents, they asked me to write to you on their behalf and thank you for the beautiful pictures you took. Your pictures, as well as the pictures in the other galleries of Cuba brought both tears and smiles to their faces the likes of which I have never seen. I watched delighted as they excitedly stood closer to the monitor and pointed at places they recognized and recalled their long-forgotten memories, and I watched heartbroken as they covered their mouths in sadness upon seeing other images. As a half-Cuban, half-American granddaughter of two old, displaced Cubans who fear they will never again be able to return home, I sincerely thank you for sharing your photographs because imagine you never thought that they could mean so much to complete strangers. This evening that I've spent with my Abuela and Abuelo sharing all the image galleries I found today at pbase.com has been one of the most special times we've ever had together. Thank you, thank you, thank you! :)
