We signed up for this expedition on Hurtigruten's good ship, mv. Fritjof Nansen, not without trepidation as we wondered if we were not too long in the tooth to be dealing with wet landings which required some agility and trekking on deserted islands in long boots among glacial screes...and...and...! Timing also raised doubts in our minds as it was early fall during the months of Aug/Sept 2025 as we are a pair of octogenarians! As it turned out, it was an experience we enjoyed immensely, revelling in the icebergs, lice floes, wildlife, gorgeous sunrises and sunsets and sharing the way of life of the first nation peoples......hardy and resourceful folk, hospitable and warm and welcoming...even the early nights generously put on a show with the northern lights...the good lady Aurora Borealis made two appearances...! And place names dating back to the Hudson Bay Company nomenclature like Icefjorden, Baffin Bay, Uluhaktok, Murray Island, Ugsuqtuuq and introduced (at a safe distance) to a polar bear breakfasting on a seal he had killed...!!!
