S230 Low Light Pictures (No Flash)

Pictures taken with the S230 at low light levels and no flash
After dark behind the office. Handheld and braced against a post. Overcast skies reflected some light from the surrounding city lights. See EXIF data for more particulars.

My first attempt at action photography with the S230. Left to its own devices on automatic, the shutter speed is a horrible 1/2 sec - no way to hold this steady without good bracing. Even the stuff that is still, like the wall, is blurred!

I've improved a bit later in the game by setting the camera on manual, ASA 400. I've improved the shiutter speed by tenfold to 1/20 sec. Still to slow for reliable handdholding, still requires good bracing.

By increasing the ASA value and using exposure compensation, I was able to get fast enough shutter speeds to freeze most of the action. There is still some blur, of course, at 1/60 sec.

Took this picture to help answer a question: Can the S230 take pictures of computer monitors? Guess it can! :-) This was handheld and very late at night - so fuzziness is probably mostly due to the camera operator!
