The smokestack of the Confederate Powder Works stands as a memorial for those who fought for the South. The Powder Works was the only permanent edifice constructed by the Confederate States of America. 7,000 pounds of gunpowder was produced daily in the 2 miles long complex during the war.

Behind the chimney is the Sibley Mill, which kept producing denim until 2006.
