The contorted metal remnant of a culvert certainly spoiled this otherwise lovely scene.
This dike caught my eye just after photographing a freight train that went by on the right-of-way
at far left. This looks west from a minor road that provides access to a salt evaporation facility.
The area at right is probably an evaporation pond where salt and related minerals are extracted
periodically, though my Benchmark atlas of Utah (page 42) labels it "mud flat." Out of view at
left, beyond the railroad grade, is Interstate 80. At bottom left are tumbleweeds.
