Other than the gravel road and the miners' trash, this cairn was the only sign of previous human
presence on the entire trip. I added a few stones to it. The bamboo stick is six feet (1.8m) long;
its markings are one foot (30cm) apart. Behind the boulder is a stream gully into which I had to
descend in order to keep going---it is most distasteful to descend during an ascent or vice versa.
