Barracks for nurses in World War 2

Wendover, Utah view map

This is the residence for nurses working at the air base hospital. It is a rectangular structure about 150 feet long and contains many small rooms on either side of a central hallway that runs the entire length of the building.

One door was open, so I explored the inside. As I walked down the central hall I tried to hear the sounds of war-time: footsteps, doors slamming shut, windows creaking as they were opened or closed, water splashing in a sink, the murmurs of a friendly game of poker, an argument, laughter, sad good-byes. Thanks to all of you who served us then.

When I took this picture (October 2006), several rooms were decorated in a Halloween theme: fake spider webs, fake blood, etc. Perhaps it had been used the previous year as a haunted house.
