Grade crossing for who-knows-what

Day Canyon, Potash Road, Utah

Seeing this grade crossing got me curious about this area. Why was there a
grade crossing where no side road existed (what appears to be a dirt road
ends at the white gate). And why was that fence there? Hmmm.
