These two pictures were taken 51 years apart inside the Marin County Civic Center in San Rafael, California (north of San Francisco and Sausalito). The building was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright.

On the left is a photo taken in 1966 during a road trip to California with college chum Don Harrison. It was my first time in the Golden State. Don wanted to see the building up close, so we explored it inside and out. I had never heard of this building and seeing it was a thrill. This is one of several views I captured during that long-ago visit. I was using Kodachrome slide film in a Honeywell Pentax H1a camera with a 50mm lens.

On the right is a shot taken in November 2017 during a five-day solo drive from Washington State to Arizona. This time the equipment was a Nikon D80 digital camera with a 28-200mm zoom lens, probably set to 28mm. The two-hour exploration was great fun. I rephotographed about six shots from 1966.

Technical details:
To digitize the slide image I put the slide in a projector and used my iPhone to photograph the image projected on a wall. The only editing I did to either image was to crop and brighten the 1966 image. Images were combined with PhotoScape software.
