Over the past 50 years of car driving I have honed my skill in pumping gas, so I feel pretty confident in handling the task. But at this gas station at Grasmere, Idaho I reached my level of incompetence. No matter how hard I tried and what method I used, I could not coax any fuel out of these pumps.

In spite of this humiliating experience I was able to avert disaster and carry on---I had enough fuel to reach the next gas station.
