Air holes in a wastebasket

One of those "helpful hints" pages on the web (or was it an e-mail message?) had a tip that appealed to me. It said that pulling a gabage bag out of a wastebasket is easier if there are air holes in the wastebasket. The flow of air counteracts the vacuum effect at the bottom of the wastebasket.

I tried it and it works. It reduces, but does not eliminate, the vacuum effect. Even so, the ten holes I drilled made enough of a difference to justify the work of drilling.

We do that here too. In fact we put holes like this in all kinds of things and then find out how useful it becomes. Usually .45" diameter but sometimes .223

I saw that on the web, also. I must have misunderstood it
because I though it was to help put the empty bag in.
I don't know.....my son takes the garbage out.
