Looking down on the Cane Creek Branch and the Colorado River

Bootlegger Canyon (southwest of Moab, Utah) view map

The Colorado River is flowing toward the camera. Directly above me is Potash Road (SR 279). The track of the Cane Creek Branch makes a graceful curve after emerging from a narrow part of the canyon (that section was blasted from the rock). The Corona Arch Trail starts at the parking lot at lower center, ascends the slope, crosses the track, and continues along the base of the shadowy cliff on its way to the arch. My car is in that parking lot. Between the road and the river is the Gold Bar Recreation Center (group camping and boat ramp).
The rock bench I’m on here called to me a few years earlier when I had seen a photo taken from it by another explorer. This day, after visiting nearby Corona Arch, I explored the bench "because it's there." Although there was one spooky section with mild exposure, the scramble was fun and provided this nice view.

The view was of no concern to Joe Tripod, who supoported my camera for this self-portrait.
