Like the Philippine Bulbul, this near Philippine endemic bird is not uncommon. However, it's very smart and shy and this is the first time I got it in good light and decent environment. To be honest, I don't find this bird beautiful, what with its head skin looking like exposed brain matter to me. But a bird need not be very pretty before I consider it one of my best photographs. Rarity and difficulty of capture, detail, lighting, and quality of background/foreground ushered this pic into the Top endemics list.
