This is a superb capture of a stunning bird (which to my shame I had never heard of before). Very well done Romy!

A wondeful image of a gorgeous bird, Rony.

Peter Ericsson: Creationism is a nice fairy tale, but it's just that - a fairy tale.

Hey, Rony, pardon me for saying it but you are absolutely right about all these things except one: GOD, not evolution created this magnificent creature!

If you have a little time, take a look at this...

Wonderful image it is indeed!

And exeptional bird indeed. They look agressive but have a gentle caractre and came become like pets. Not that I wish to proomote that here ! I live in Negros oriental and one is on display at the "sea Forest resort " My intentions are better as I wish to get into breeding programs for endemic species of birds here. I come original from the netherlands.
This Website is an insperation to everybody that takes interest to what we call "ONLY IN THE PHILIPPINES" Thanks Romy.. Maraming Salamat Po !

Of all my bird pics so far, this is the sweetest capture in my book. It took me almost two years to finally get a glimpse of this Philippine endemic hornbill. I was awe-struck with its magnificence and beauty when I finally saw it at the Quezon National Park. If somehow, I'm given all the powers in the universe to create my ideally pretty bird, I surely won't be able to do a job half as good as what evolution achieved with this creature.

Inspite of trembling hands and racing heart, I miraculously managed to operate the 350D + Sigmonster well enough to record this spectacular bird in pixels.

This species is now threatened with extinction, as its habitat is fast shrinking. Sadly, unless something is done to arrest the destruction of Philippines' rainforests, future wild bird photographers might not have a chance of capturing this bird in its natural habitat again.

Needless to say, this photo is now on top of my Top endemics heap.

Thanks for the suggestion, Chuck. I actually started with a "Top Ten," then I just couldn't eliminate some sentimental favorites. So I expanded the list to Top 20, and finally Top 25. I resolved then to keep it at that number...:)

Romy, fantastic photos! May I suggest that you make it "My Best 50 Birds" to keep the rest of the gems?

WOW, that is a stunningly spectacular bird. And in your hands, that Sigma performs magic. Stunning!!!!!

Cheers, Vikas
