Got lucky today (August 2, 2005) to get tons of pics of the flying Grass Owl in decent light, which is rarely possible because these birds normally come out during dawn and dusk only. I feel most of the owl photos are good enough to land in this elite Top 25 list, displacing the male Purple-Throated Sunbird. However, I chose this particular pic because of the difficulty of capture (low light = difficult AF, high ISO and relatively low shutter speed). The bird was coming at me and the AI servo (center point) lock held on despite the busy background and low light. The relatively low shutter speed left the wings with a nice motion blur, and the spot-on AF rendered the face sharp. The layered appearance and nice colors of the background provided the seasoning.
