Habitat - Along coast on exposed mud, sand and coral flats, on rocks, and also ricefields.

The combination of features that point to a tattler rather than a Tringa-sandpiper are:
- the clear barring on the flank
- the yellow legs
- the uniformly grey, spotless upperparts
- the rather short and thick bill
- the uniformly grey tail
- the horizontal jizz with a short neck*
*which is actually the opposite of the previous pic, in which the bird is stretching its neck and immediately looks like a Tringa! But note that it is the same bird according to Romy.
