Several of these visiting my suet feeder in Germantown, midwinter. Some don’t have the red feature—female? Or immature?

This woodpecker seems to be the smallest type to visit my suet feeder. I have a large woodpecker with an almost solid red head and a mid size woodpecker with a red stripe runni g front to back of the head.

I have this bird in my garage and can't seem to get him out. He flew in yesterday and has stayed close to ceiling ever since. I can't get him to come down to see the open huge garage door. Also, yesterday another one flew to help and got stuck too. We were able to get him down and he flew out. HELP!!!!! Does anyone have any ideas....please.

I saw one of these today when I was out taking bird pictures in Towson... it was just kinda sitting on this tree, almost like it was posing for me. Nice to know what it was :D

We have these at our suet feeders throughout the day. Many different sizes so we're not sure exact number. They love, love, love the peanut or peanut butter & wild berry flavors. We've had three on one small cage suet feeder at same time. These guys even hang on when windy. They will leave feeder when red bellied & red headed woodpeckers drop in throughout day. So thankful 4 this site. Location: Jarrettsville, Md

The request for soundbites is a good one. Maybe not just of this one, but as many as are caught on tape.

Thank you for your beautiful photos. I am not a birdwatcher by hobby, but spend a lot of time in the woods with my dog. Strangely enough, yesterday one of these little beauties passed away and was found on my front walk... technically in the city, but "Hamilton" is hardly citified. This sad little event caused me to find your site, which I shall revisit often for happier reasons.

Very nice photo. If would be nicer still if you could attach a sound clip of the critters song.
