Had a delightful experience today with a Wren chick while at work today. A couple weeks ago I noticed the mother Wren builtIng her nest in plastic pot that was lying on its side on top of a shelf under an overhang of a storage area. Today I was standing in the area near the shelf that the nest was perched atop of when I heard a small chirp, chirp! When I looked down there was a baby Wren on the ground looking up at me. It had feathers but was still to young to fly, it had fallen from the nest. I carefully pick the baby up and put it back in the nest with the other three under the watchful eye of the mother Wren. The way the pot was situated I couldn’t move it back from the edge of the shelf without disturbing the nest. The nest was to small for the growing birds and they would fall out of the nest when being fed. So I had a quick solution, I cut a cardboard box to create an extension off the front of the shelf forming what looked like an overhanging veranda which gave them space to move around safely. When I came back an hour later the mother Wren had returned with insects in her beak and, I saw four little open beaks poking just above the edge of the cardboard waiting to be fed. The Wren family is very happy and safe now. It made my day to help them in some way.

I have at least one in Huntingtown, Md. February 2020. He was very curious about our steps, and hung around while the other birds were at the feeder. Hope to hear them sing!

Lived in Maryland all my life and saw one for the first time a few weeks ago. She made a nest in a planter on the deck. Checked the nest yesterday and there's at least one baby

Had a chirpy little one make a nest in my hanging begonia basket. Now we have 3 babies. They get very vocal when I am sitting outside and it needs to get to the nest. Laurel Md

Does the Carolina Wren glean or eat the leaves of flowers (particularly Aquilegia)?

Discovered this bird buiding a nest in one of my hanging flower baskets. Actually there are two of them, did not realise what they were doing and whenever i watered th eplant they would fly out making quite a ruckus, peeped in and saw an egg in the nest dont know if there are more but it all makes for interesting bird watching in Bowie, Maryland

This little bird has a beautiful song early in the morning, especially in the spring. You are right about hiding in the patio umbrella, but the ones I have seen are eating the stink bugs that hide in the folds of the umbrella on our deck.
This site is wonderful. Now I can identify the birds I see. Thanks much.

This was a joy to watch and hear - first sighting June 2011 in my ground feeder and hiding up under my folded patio umbrella. Arbutus, MD
