19th September 2007 - it's not great ART

…..but it is all heart!

I’ve seen Champagne Hughie (and Shazbop, but I see Shazbop every time I’m in London, what with sleeping in her spare room and all that) tonight for the first time in ages and ages.

He walked into the restaurant where we met and from the first moment, until after we parted (we continued on mobile phones for a bit) we had the most enormous love fest you can imagine. Hugs, kisses and more hugs and more kisses and more hugs and more kisses. We giggled and giggled and in fact that bit went on until we came to a brutal stop later, while sitting on the bus home, which I’ll come to in a minute.

Seeing Hughie was the best antidote to a day in my professional world that was on a par at least and possibly significantly worse than any I’ve encountered already. I needed to laugh and being with Hugh and Sharon provided me with the opportunity to forget my woes and just enjoy myself.

We ate a stonking meal, drank some stonking wine and generally had a great time. Why is he holding his finger over his forehead – he’s got a huge, new mole……he’s also had a lecture from me about going to see the doc about it. He was embarrassed about it being in the pic and although I told him that photoshop would sort that out, he insisted on ‘hiding’ it himself…

After we left Hugh, we spent a thoroughly wonderful ten minutes or so giggling so infectiously on the train that the two women opposite us were caught up in our mirth and were joining in too.

We got on the bus and I phoned home. DM told me I needed to phone my Mum urgently. My Mum then delivered the next hammer blow when she told me that my cousin had been involved in a serious accident – his car had been hit by a lorry. He had been airlifted to the local general hospital, where he underwent major surgery and then he was airlifted again to Stoke Mandeville – any UK reader of this knows what that means. He’s got no feeling at all below his waist. He’s facing six months in the hospital and it seems doubtful he’ll ever walk again. He is very sick indeed.

I sure needed my little love fest in the middle of the most awful day of bad news.

Last year, I was also working too hard (so what else is new) but then I got into thinking about pretending to be something I am!

Strangely I've just found this pic of Shazbop and Hughie with David - the shot was taken in exactly the same spot!

Glad you had a wonderful evening... but so sorry about your cousin. Stoke Mandeville is an amazing place and I'm sure he'll draw strength from there.

I can't help but think that somebody else should be doing the same!
End of drunken post.

Sorry to hear about your cousin, but in time I'm sure he'll become more positive about things. He'll become a stronger person mentally.
