3rd April 2007 - he never promised me....

…..a rose garden!

I have had a real ‘breakthrough day’ today. I’ve been able to tick the box from my New Year’s ambitions, in fact box no 4, the one that said I was going to dig up the paving and weed-suppressant from the big flowerbed in the main garden and plant it with roses. As of today, I have a rose garden, where once a sorry mess existed.

(By the way, I'd already ticked off no 3 on that list.....)

I’ve worked like a dog (as always) to do this – it took me a couple of days, a couple of weeks ago, to get the paving and stones off as well as dig it over and dress with my pal from the Young Farmers’ dung! I ordered eighteen bare-rooted roses from David Austin, along with some fairy dust – stuff that you sprinkle into the hole and it grows a whole additional root system to aid the plant in sucking up water. They arrived yesterday so today I spent much of the day planting them.

They are all heavily scented old-fashioned English roses and I’m hoping that when we sit down on the lawn next to them over the summer, that they earn their keep by bewitching us with their scent.

That’s not the only breakthrough. I have also, much to my utter delight, made my most significant sale of a photograph that I have ever sold. It’s not the most money, but it’s certainly the most prestigious sale ever for me.

My photo is going to be used to advertise an art exhibition at one of the most prestigious private art galleries in New York. MY PIC. Little old me – rubbing shoulders with people who not only know, but also exhibit real ‘A-list’ artists.

So, it’s a red-letter day for me because I have achieved two big ticks in my NY ambitions…..

He never promised me a rose garden, but I have made one for myself in more than one sense of the word……and how!

Last year, I was marvelling at how the dead can support the living!

Something you'll never regret having!

Congratulations on both counts.
The sale of the Pic is great news, and as for the rose patch the hens will keep it manured and probobly eat all the bugs, also good news.

Fabulous work--both the garden and the photo. Love the capture with the chicken. Congratulations on your sale--I'd be thrilled just to have a picture on display at a gallery in NYC, much less a sale to go along with it.
