26th September 2005 - it's a short way to WHL!

I always say ‘never again’ but this time it was different, honest – well, I thought so at the time I grandly said I’d go to WHL. After all, I was staying in London (ish) in an hotel and all alone so how else would I spend my evening other than at my beloved WHL – what could be a better way to spend an otherwise terminally dull evening?

In the event, it was chaos – after a 5am start, a knackering day and then needing to run for every connection on the trains to get to Liverpool Street where I was meeting my buddy, Colin to go to the game as a DM substitute. I puffed and blowed my way onto the concourse at Liverpool Street at 7 minutes past 7pm and a train was leaving at 9 minutes past…..Colin didn’t know what hit him as I grabbed his arm and made a dash for the train. We ended up crammed like sardines but got to the ground just in time for a swiftie at the B&H.

My world suddenly got brighter as the dog shit hill gang were chanting ‘go Linda’ as I fought my way to the bar and got us drinks!!!!!

The game, in all honesty, wasn’t a stunning performance from Spurs but we did the job, got our three points and climbed back up to 4th spot in the table. Woo hoo. That’ll keep the cynics at bay for a bit longer at least.

I trained home, leaving Colin in the capable hands of Olly at Liverpool Street and got back to my hotel at 1am.

My pic is of my trusty travelling companion, the latest paperback by Anne Tyler. I do always love her books but there is something about the way she writes that makes them hard to get into though once you are ‘there’ you become embroiled in the life and loves of the central characters really deeply. I am enjoying this one particularly because I can now picture its setting – Baltimore, one of the places that my flagging spirit and heavy heart had the privilege to see and experience earlier this year on my ‘world tour’.

Was it worth the aggro, the missed meal, the running, the late night, the solitary walk back from the station when all ‘decent folks’ would have been tucked up in bed? You betcha!

Last year I was passionate and two years ago, my rose pic was one of my favourites!

Damn right it was worth it! I hope doing these things always stay worth the extra effort in it in our lives. I mean, what else would you do?

... and just what is this "swiftie" that you evidently shared with Colin, your "DM substitute"? You're gonna get a reputation, lady. (Um, come to think, I guess you've already got a reputation.) :-)
