27th August 2005 - England's No 1

We were robbed and we robbed too.

What a day. Chelski came to White Hart Lane and beat us 0-2 BUT it was an unfair contest because one of our players was sent off early in the first half for a non-existent foul. So, down to ten men we battled on but the might of Chelsea was too strong for us.

There is something bleakly depressing about Chelsea. Many of their fans are real ‘middle class thugs’ all looking for trouble but doing banking jobs or accountancy jobs in the City during the week. They don’t identify themselves with club shirts and mingle in with the rest of the crowd in a threateningly anonymous way. There was trouble outside our pub after the match but we didn’t see any of it because we were too busy enjoying the company of ‘real people’. The team too are just the product of a very rich Russian thug’s deep pockets. They say it’s all a money laundering scam. Dunno how true that is but it sounds very plausible to me. I must say that their fans seem not to care where he gets his dosh, as long as he keeps on spending it on more and more players.

Still, the day was not without excitement and joy. At the end of every match, Robbo (England’s No 1 goalkeeper) throws his gloves to an adoring crowd. Today, DM reached up his hand and ‘robbed’ the person behind him of a glove!!!

As I think I’ve mentioned before, Sarah has a huge thing for the man and swears that he’s looking at her each week when he thanks the fans. She loves him…….possibly more than her hubby (not really – joke).

So, DM grabs the glove and shoves it inside his hoody. We get to the pub and I MAKE him give it to Sarah……well, it’s only right – the glove deserves to be in the hands of someone who will cherish it and as I’ve already said, DM and I are going through a life laundry phase and getting rid of stuff we don’t need.

He agreed and so, after the glove has been photographed, it will be winging its way by post to Sarah’s house.

Here is the glove of England’s No 1 goalkeeper being fondled by the loving hand of Sarah – England’s no 1 friend and DM, England’s no 1 lover. A clutch of three no 1s.

Message for Eric - no, you didn't shock me - it's partly difficulties getting on-line and partly my whole world crumbling in around me that's caused the delay to posting. I'll try to catch up but I'm afraid for now my policy of 'no hiding, no flinching and no compromise has to go on hold......will explain all soon but for now, please trust that there are reasons why I can't be my usual 'heart on my sleeve self'!

Last year was a controversial time in my life - and for those interested, the dilemma was resolved by DM who took said items and threw them in the dustbin while I was away on business a couple of weeks later.

The year before, I was relishing life in my new kitchen.

Lost for words (nearly), but I do love my husband more than Robbo (sorry to break your heart Robbo if you are reading this!). Bless you Linda xx

He's holding onto that glove REALLY tightly Linda - you'd better check it gets to Sarah.... :)

Now, cricket matches seldom have hooligans, do they? Are there a bunch of burly, boorish, bruisers at the Ashes match? (I heard on the BBC last night -- i.e., this may be OBE -- that England have the upper hand and, if they maintain it, will win back the Ashes for the first time in eighteen years.) Have England really become that good, or do the Aussies just suck? BTW, this is a cute shot; DM must be really excited (or embarassed for having stolen the glove), since his face is red as a beet. :-)
