13th April 2005 - fire and ice

I’m building on my performance yesterday in more senses than one. I am rebuilding my strength and food intake after the best part of a week without much of either. This photo is, of course, black peppercorns with yesterday’s salt in the background. When I was thinking about salt yesterday, I realised that we probably use far more pepper than salt because, as I said, I never add salt to food when I’m cooking but I use pepper every day. I know the salt isn’t icy but it does look like it….well to me anyway.

The green light has been given to allow me to potter in the kitchen again, I think I’d have gone mad without it, but I’m still on orders (by DM) to maintain the highest standards of hygiene. I’ve been washing my hands so often I’m beginning to feel as though my skin will fall off!

Both of these shots (yesterday and today) have been challenging exposure-wise to get texture rather than simply black and white. I have even had a lesson in use of the light meter even though with a brain like a marshmallow I’m not sure if I’ll remember tomorrow what I learned tonight.

Poor DM has had a frustrating afternoon trying to explain the photo storage system of iPhoto to me. ‘But why, when I save the photo there does iPhoto not see it?’ so he sighs and starts his explanation again in words with even fewer syllables!!! Soon, he’ll be trying to explain stuff to me in single syllable words and it remains to be seen if I’ll get it even then.

Hot and cold sweats, as well as headaches, stomach cramps and queasiness are all still very much a part of my life, though the worst bits (if you get my drift) seem to be over.

Trying to deal with what seemed like a half-hundredweight of courgettes (zucchini) was my challenge of a year ago and Milly, one of my fat bottomed girls, was getting snapped two years ago.

Glad you are starting to feel better. That was one nasty bout of food poisoning.

Good to hear (and see) that you're feeling better... Tell DM that I said, "Ugh!" (monosyllable)

Lowering the tone (again) when I looked at the thumbnail I thought it was a picture of something solid.

Did you ever finish all those courgettes?
