After a hard night out skankin last night I wasn’t ready for a long day at footie this morning when the alarm went off. In fact, I could cheerfully have sent the alarm flying out of the window onto the snow-covered roof of our conservatory. As it was, DM put paid to the radio when the immortal words ‘and now for today’s ‘Home Truths’’ – we both feel that you can’t have ‘Home truths’ without the wonderful and sorely missed John Peel so he reached over and killed the alarm before I had chance to get my own hands on it.
So, we set off to the game sore of feet (from last night’s dancing) and tired of mind (from getting into bed at 2am). This is three Phils (two Phil Madges and a Phil twelve) in the B&H before the game.
We need not have worried – the Spurs did us proud – two blisteringly good goals from our two ‘old school’ strikers, Freddy Kanoute and Robbie Keane saw us win a local derby for the first time in a long time. Last season saw us get a complete thumping 0-3 and this year we returned the favour! Bring on Charlton in three weeks time!!!
I don’t think it was Spurs finest hour but it was certainly as good as we’d hoped for. The climate at the game was a bit strange after we’d all had letters telling us we had to sit down or we’d lose our season tickets. There were a few dissenters but on the whole we played along with the ‘new rules’.
Both the goals were corkers, the Kanoute shot from a free kick was inch perfect and Robbie Keane’s cheeky, cool shot from point blank after beating the goalie and a defender was superb.
There are no more visits to the Lane for me for a month or more. I miss it already.
I can hardly believe a year has passed since step one of our plan to make a better life for ourselves was being put into place but it's true - a year ago we were off to find treasure!
