10th February 2005 - the Imposter? No.

Sometimes you just feel as though you are in heaven? Oh that’s where I’ve been tonight. I’ve been in the company of a genius. A HUGE man. My hero.

It’s been Elvis Costello’s return to the London stage and I was in the fourth row to witness this monumental event. The man arrived on stage to the sound of the magnificent 007….well, I think that’s what it’s called but I’ll confirm tomorrow….

He started with songs from two of my favourite albums of all time – King of America – Blue Chair then Uncomplicated from Blood and Chocolate. Me while this is going on? I’m melting into my chair. I think I’m in love with this man’s views on love. He just tells it like I feel it every time. Unerringly. Unswervingly and without complication. I can’t tell you how his voice makes me feel. It’s indescribable. I can tell it at a hundred paces – I know every time he ad libs in the background in Squeeze’s ‘Black coffee in bed’ and I think I know every song. Gush gush gush gush gush gush gush!!!!!

For more than two hours he belts out hits from every album, new songs and old all rubbing shoulders in one big glorious mass of venom, love, mystery, anger, lust and so so so much more.

I had my camera in my bag…and DMs 50mm 1.8mm lens. I was a bit nonchalant about it and didn’t get it out until quite a way through the set and when I started shooting he caught me. Taking his photo. I expected a hand on the shoulder and an order to delete the memory card any second but no. I didn’t get that. I got his full attention. He came to my lens and played for me. This is the result.

I am in awe. I am thrilled. I am overwhelmed.

AAAAAaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhHHHHHHHHH

Last year.....melt, my lover melt......

First, this picture is fantastic. It's perfect! The lighting is excellent.
You got the best seats for what must of been a wonderfully moving concert.

Amazing! There he is......Little Hands of Concrete, Napoleon Dynamite, the Emotional Toothpaste, Howard Coward (or is it Henry?) Call him what you will......he's only the imposter! I was nearly as close as this at his show with Steve Nieve last spring at UCLA, but couldn't sneak my camera in.

'.....it's the way your shoulders shakes and what they're shaking for'

"I need, I need, I need the human touch"

"Whenever I put my foot in my mouth and you begin to doubt
That it's you that I'm dreaming about
Do I have to draw you a diagram?
All I ever want is just to fall into your human hands "

Love Elvis, King of America and Blood and Chocolate are in my collection but no more cameos in Spice World: the Movie type stuff, please! I remember my brother and I reciting his obsessive "I Want You" as gaunt teenagers for grim sport.

Great illumination in this shot and not a bit of blur - no mean task from where you're standing.

Great shot -- but tell us, Linda, how do you really feel about Elvis?

you DO have more don't you?? Did he ask for copies?? I would imagine they only don't like it if there is flash involved . .and you DIDN'T FLASh him, didja???

OMGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG

You KNOW how I LOVE him!! MORE MORE MORE, you MUST have a gallery where you put more, Linda!

Wow, I TOTALLY know what you mean about his "view" on love, and all other things, no one writes like he does.

You should be in awe.
You should be proud.
You got your man.
And they didn't get you.
