19th July 2004 - beyond the gates lurks...

Big gates but smiling people…..

No, this isn’t quite what I was expecting although it was certainly less painful than my fears (even though tomorrow could still be as bad).

This is…..from the left:

Cassie – very cool person who isn’t phased by ANYTHING

Caroline – newly wed and growing in confidence every day

Jane – just about the loveliest person it’s possible to meet (not that the others in this pic aren’t nice, it’s just that Jane is such a calm, level person she grounds us all.

Steve – fellow Spurs fan!

Melissa – a gentle soul who won’t be with us much longer because she’s going back to Bath to finish her degree.

After our day meeting we walked the half-mile or so to the pub for dinner along the leafy back lanes of Epsom and found this amazing set of gates with the most extraordinary set of buildings behind it – one looked like a church but in fact was a horse ring where the owners trained their horses. The one in the back of the picture is the house the owners live in….how the other half live eh?

What happy, friendly-looking people. That amazing gate frames them well.

It is amazing how many nice things you can find on the way to the pub.

I bet that's just the tradesman's entrance too...

Well, I knew it wasn't MY front gate :-)
