This is (from bottom left, clockwise) Sarah, Bondy (now known as Chris too), Phil, Tim Sherwood (sorry, I can’t remember your real name....Olly tells me 'Large') and Olly. They are in the garden (!?) of the Bell and Hare celebrating a victory of a kind when we came back from a two goal deficit against the ARSEnal to draw 2-2 at WHL this afternoon.
That may not seem like much of a victory to most but given that they were top of the table and almost certain to win the championship today, they are our most bitter rivals AND we were down 0-2 at half time, we felt a celebration was in order. They were top with more than 40 points more than us (three points for a win and one for a draw) and so we should, on the balance of things lost.
Our two goals in the second half did nothing to prevent their claiming the championship but it did save our pride.
On the way to the station, I realised David was wearing his Spurs top - that was a great boost to a very worried Linda. As I got out of the car he gave me a £1 coin and asked me to bet on a 2-1 victory and Keane scoring the first goal. I've never been so happy!
We had a number of mishaps leading up to the game, I made a mistake and arranged to meet Sarah somewhere other than where I tried to meet her….eventually we met OK but it delayed us by half an hour. We then couldn’t get into the pub – too many people so we had to have our pre-match drinks in the stadium…but the atmosphere was great so that was OK.
By half-time we were dejected because of being two goals down but we didn’t give up. We hollered and cheered (I have no voice left at all) and we managed to whip the team up into a recovery and got a point out of the game.
After the final whistle blew, we were on out way out and saw Tom, who walked with us back to the bell and Hare, where the police ‘locked us in’ for an hour – shame!!!
Nice to see the guys, even though I now realise one of them has been texting my tormentor thinking it was me.
Anyway, we were able to restore some pride for the Spurs. How fab is that. Here are a few more shots from the game.
Oh and i now know NO-ONE else has scored twice against them away from home....
