To answer the question posed by Angela Johnson...

They're generally not as skinny as that looks. The building's footprint is triangular. Look at a map of Manhattan, and find Broadway. WHere it intersects the regular "grid" streets, these little slivers of land are formed -- and with every square foot of mid-town real estate being so precious... Well, this is what happens.
