David and I took my folks to Worcester today so my dad could visit the cathedral. We took it slowly and ambled around the city before heading to the cathedral. Because it’d been some time since my dad had last been inside the cathedral, we spent quite a long time mooching about or just sitting quietly in the pews contemplating life. One of the things we noticed was the way that light shafts into the space in pinpricks and these are constantly changing. One moment it’s a winged horse in the full glare of the sun, the next it’s an eagle or a headless griffin or a few pipes of the organ. Of course this is also something that will vary by day, week and month depending on the position of the sun. It’s a way to view a whole new world.
I must say it’s a good analogy for using time wisely – sit and look at a problem and a solution might just present itself in a flash of inspiration. You never know where that pinprick of illumination will fall next.
