It’s rare for me to covet something but this is the thing that’s been eating away at me for years. I’ve spent hours poring over the Kitchen Aid website, looking at models, colours and basically just lusting over this gorgeous thing for about ten years or more. When I got my job, after years of frugality, I decided to allow myself a treat. This is it.
A month ago, when I knew I was going to be getting a salary for the first time in years, I went into an independent cookware shop in town and discussed the beast with them. I’d seen a pink one on the website but the pink one in the store was insipid. Oh no – what to do…
A long discussion with the staff suggested one in an egg yolk yellow. We popped into Debenhams to see if they’d got the yellow because the independent store didn’t have one in stock to see what it looked like. I spotted this vision of loveliness from twenty paces – this is the pink I’d seen on the website and it looked amazing.
There was no price difference between the two stores and the service in the independent was superb so two weeks ago I went back to the indy store to order my Kitchen Aid in Raspberry Ice. Do you know the best bit - it'd been reduced in price by £45 since two weeks earlier! Yesterday I collected it. Last night it was pressed into action to knead some bread dough and this morning’s sweet apple, pear and cinnamon roll bake was the best I’ve ever done.
I don’t care that it’s got a gunky streak over it or that it’s not a showroom style shot. It’s my beautiful Kitchen Aid gleaming on my work surface in the last of the autumn sunshine and I LOVE it. (Tomorrow it's winter.)
