I go into work each morning and see this little chap sat behind the desk. He makes me smile because of his earnest little face, his flamboyant mohair coat and his slightly dishevelled air. All of these things make me happy.

I walk around the office and get to tickle the not one but four office dogs, Marbles, Beau, Saskia and Puddle. They will often pop into my office to see me for an ear rub or a few kind words. They investigate my rubbish bin thoroughly each day checking to see if I have thrown anything out that might be of interest to them – usually the answer to that question is no.

Today I was going about my business when I was asked to do a couple of extra jobs that are, it has to be said, definitely verging on the dark arts of computing and the asker was tearing his hair out trying to get to grips with them. These are things I can do. They’re things I’ve done many times before. I volunteered my services, which were snapped up in a flash and I felt useful.

For me, that’s as good as it gets…long may it continue. It’s a rare commodity in my world and so today has been a good day.
