It’s funny how the lemon has become symbolic in so many ways. I don’t know if it’s the case in all English speaking countries but we brits often use the term “lemon” to indicate that someone has been an idiot – “oh you lemon”. It's also used to describe someone who has done something so dumb that they end up ostracised in the corner "he was left standing there looking like a right lemon". Otherwise it’s used to describe things that are sharp, sour or even bitter. (Even though, technically speaking, it’s not the latter, the assertion that lemons are bitter comes from the drink bitter lemon and that’s made bitter by a different ingredient, not the lemon.)

However, for today, this makes a good metaphor for someone who is being a massive lemon and is so sharp, sour and bitter that they will probably never experience true love or kindness. For that they should really be the subject of our pity although I must say that a poke in the eye with a sharp stick feels like a much more satisfying option. Perhaps it's time to make some lemonade.
