20th July 2014 - bountiful nature

I’ve had the first quiet day in such a long time today. The whole day has involved no more than a bit of mooching about, lots of reading, a bit of web-surfing and a long afternoon snooze. I think I deserve it on every level.

When the heat of the day had started to dissipate and the dogs were in need of some exercise, we headed off to the shore of the river (creek to the Cornish or Pill to the Welsh). The trees here are laden with nature's bounty of fruit and seeds this year and this sycamore (maple family) was covered in helicopter seeds that were positively glowing in the evening sunshine. My pic isn’t the best because in the interests of travelling light I have only brought my general purpose lens – my 24-85mm zoom so the photo isn’t what it might have been with my 100mm macro but it is evocative of the moment.

I fooled you all yesterday with my post because I was a little less than open about my whereabouts – the south coast features I described could easily have been in Cornwall or Devon but in fact the photo and description were of a pill in South Pembrokeshire – we are in the Pembroke National Park on the banks of the Cleddau river and I must say it’s really lovely.
