Our “standard loop” was obstructed tonight by a bunch of people doing strange things – gallows? Milestone to imaginary place? Women in big frocks? Men up ladders? How dare they! This is OUR moor. We had to take a detour around the party and were (pretty politely I must say) asked to stand still and stay silent while they shot a couple of minutes of whatever.
We later discovered that “whatever” is the new BBC remake of Poldark. I know that it’d be quite reasonable to suggest that I spend my life with my head in a bucket but I’d never heard of the male lead (Aidan Turner)…who I now, thanks to IMDB, know was the lead in the Hobbit films, which I’m rather proud of never having seen. Eleanor Tomlinson is the female lead and even though I’d never have known her name, I have at least seen her in a film that I really loved (Angus, thongs and perfect snogging). To be fair, there are some cast members that even I say "wow" about (Warren Clarke and Phil Davis).
I’m sure the BBC will roll their eyes in either frustration or fury when I say “I hope they get the lighting and sound levels right” – they can’t have got them any more wrong on Jamaica Inn, which was as gloomy as a gloomy thing and not in a good, atmospheric way, in a bloody annoying way. The sound quality was so poor that it was like listening to it under water. I think Auntie Beeb had a record number of complaints about that one. We gave up after the first of three episodes – TV isn’t meant to be challenging in that way!
So there you go, our little village is full of so called celebrities tonight – I do hope they’re all staying in the pub! (That’ll be an eye-opener for them!)
