…is another girl’s meat!

You know I said I was going to splash out on a pair of trainers and that it was a sort of a rite of passage because it marked the possibility that I might just make it and qualify as a teacher?

So, I went shopping at the weekend and bought these. I sat on a stool in the shoe shop and wanted to weep. Me? In trainers? Noooooooooooooooooo. The problem is they are all (in my humble opinion) pig ugly and demeaning as footwear for adults. There. I’ve said it. I will now duck because I know my view on this is a minority one.

A poor shop assistant sat while I lamented their ugliness. He defended them. It came down to a choice between two pairs and I’m going to say I was bullied into the uglier pair even though DM and the shop assistant would say persuaded not bullied. The other pair looked less like trainers, despite still being fairly vile. This pair would give me more credibility as a PE teacher, at least that’s what DM thought. His rationale was they look a bit more like sports shoes than the other pair and therefore the children would recognise them as proper trainers.

On another day I would have wept as I handed over fifty sobs for the complete lack of pleasure they would bring me. I managed to hold it together well enough though – it’s embarrassing crying in shoe shops.

Today their debut dawned. I donned them and went to work as a PE teacher. What happened? The other trainee teacher at the school bumped into me in the corridor and said “OMG I LOVE those Puma trainers, I want a pair of those so badly.” Well I nearly fell over with shock. How can anything so hideous be aspirational yet somehow I’d managed to press the button of a young woman while being repulsed myself. There is nowt stranger than folks…and one girl’s poison is truly another’s meat!
