You may remember this gadget – it’s been in my PAD once or even twice before. Its most recent appearance was on the top of a bottle of home-made chilli oil that had, by this morning, matured nicely. In fact, it’s been on the meal serving worktop since last Friday when it was used to add zing to the Friday night pizzas.

Today I was trying my best to multi-task – in a short break from my dissertation to make dinner, I was cooking and at the same unpacking a box of newspaper-wrapped china to put away and, when I’d finished, I picked up the box, full by this time of screwed up paper, turned around and ***SMASH*** the chilli oil, chillis and broken glass were all over the kitchen floor and this was the only survivor of the catastrophe.
