17th october 2013 - just an old gas bag

That’s me – just an old windbag with nothing much to say…

On the other hand, these long-dead fruits are alive and kicking as gas transporters. They have been gathering up carbon dioxide from the bottom of this glass and transporting it to the surface, from where the gas dissipates. The fruit sinks to the bottom, gathers up more gas and floats to the top where it drops off its load and makes another journey. It’s been working solidly for a good half an hour now and shows no sign of abatement. I could say “it’s magic” but the truth is it’s a simple chemical reaction using the kind of things we all have in our store cupboard. I’m still thrilled about the repertoire of party tricks I’m building in my new life.

By the way - ask me how many chords I know on the ukulele...go on, ask me...let me give you a clue - next week I can release the perfect pop single! (Watch this space.)

PS. 'When I Were A Lad'is a book I bought second-hand from Amazon, highly recommended as a present for older members of the family.

When I were a lad, Kelloggs once gave away baking powder powered submarines in packets of cornflakes, I suppose they worked on the same principle.
Yesterday I made a large batch of pea and ham soup, bath time could be fun.
